Blake scores a peach as Shane seal 3-1 victory

A superb strike from Blake and free-kicks from Jayke and Zach sealed an important win that sees Shane leapfrog Red Lions to sit in second place at the half-way point.

After a few months off, the teams were welcomed back to a soggy pitch amidst rainy conditions at Nangang.

Shane deservedly opened the scoring early on when Alex Patrascu crossed over to Blake Pattenden who chested the ball back across goal and volleyed into the roof of the net. A superb finish from the Aussie.

Shane kept pushing for a second, with Jose and Blake having a lot of joy going forward but we couldn't quite apply the finishing touch. However, the lead was doubled shortly before half-time when a Jayke Langley free kick squirmed its way under the keeper. Shane went into half-time with a fully deserved 2-0 lead.

Red Lions came out fighting in the second half and were on the front foot for the opening stages. They won a penalty that was converted to half the deficit.

Despite the increasing pressure from the Lions, the Shane back four put their bodies on the line to snuff out any chances. This pressure was soon relieved when the Lions were reduced to ten men after a push on winger Dan Horne.

This boost was welcomed by Shane, who took the ascendancy to push on in search of a third goal. This soon came when Dan Horne was scythed down on the edge of the box as he was through on goal. Zach Paruch stepped up to excellently dispatch the free-kick into the bottom corner to seal the win for Shane.

A spirited performance in which everybody put a shift in, Shane can be proud of how they played today and can go into the second half of the season with a lot of optimism.
