Late penalty denies Shane win

A late Lions penalty ensured a share of the spoils in a hard-fought game at FuHe.

We lined up in a 3-4-3 against a strong Lions attack. The uncut grass made it difficult to play any decent football, but we were unlucky not to take the lead with Big Sam hitting the post towards the end of the first half.

A shift to a 4-2-3-1 in the second half worked well as we created more chances and took the lead after Big Sam's disruptive presence in the box gave Jayke Langley the opportunity to prod home and make it 1-0.

We had a couple of half-chances to double our advantage, but the Lions keeper and the long grass combined to deny us.

Jayke added to his afternoon by picking up two yellows while off the pitch for furiously holding onto the ball after the Lions keeper tipped the ball over for a goal kick.

With about 15 mins left on the clock the referee blew up for a soft penalty. Penalty converted, 1-1.

The momentum shifted after this, but we weathered the last ten minutes well and shared the spoils.

Scorching day, terrible pitch, but good performances all round. It feels like two points lost, but heads can be held high.

MOTM to Daniel Miller for a top shift marshalling the defence. Solid throughout.

David Peteri also had a cracker on the right wing and would've created even more had the pitch been better.
