Shane Start Strongly to Defeat Eagles

Shane started the 2020-21 campaign with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Taipei Eagles at Xinzhuang.

A gritty game that was fitting for the first game of the season was played out, with both teams battling well with a display of tough tackling and aerial battles. Captain Jamie Smith led by example at CB, not giving the Eagles attack an inch with his aerial prowess. His partnership alongside an equally impressive Sean Monks limited the Eagles to few chances and keeper Adam Lupinski was rarely threatened.

Chances were few and far between for both teams as the game became bogged down in the middle of the park, but Shane took the lead on the break when Enoc Hercules threaded a lovely ball through to put Felix Tasker one-on-one with the keeper, and the result was never in doubt as he placed it home to put Shane ahead.

Despite the scrappy nature of the game, Jayke Langley kept Shane ticking with his energy in the middle of the park, breaking away on multiple occasions with quick tackling and good movement. Another quick break gave Shane a chance to kill the game at the end, as debutant Tom Burke showed great awareness to deceive the defender before slotting a well-timed pass through to Lars Fund who struck a powerful shot across the keeper and into the back of the net.

A good start to the season for Shane, as we look forward to playing the B52’s on 15/11. Up the Shane!
