Shane Kill the Otters Off 9-1 in Cup First Round

Patrick Swandell and Paul Warren both hit hat-tricks as Shane kicked off their season with a comprehensive cup win over an improved Otters side at Bailing Bridge.

Despite fears of a waterlogged pitch, the conditions were good, and the cooler September climate suited the Shane team.

Shane started the game quickly, with Patrick Swandell slamming in the first goal from the edge of the box, following a bit of pinball in the penalty area. Otters replied quickly though and scored with a deflected shot after a mazy run.

Shane kept their heads up though, and were patient in their build-up, taking less than 10 minutes to regain the lead. Following this, the floodgates opened, and Shane went into half-time 7-1 up.

Shane continued to press into the second half, scoring two more before the final whistle to end the game as 9-1 winners.

Special mentions go to Patrick Swandell and Paul Warren, whom both grabbed hat-tricks, as well at Matty Raitt and Felipe, who had great games on the wings, both notching up a goal and assist.

Shane also gave debuts to Adam Lupinski, Stu Hayward and Enoc Hercules, who all looked solid, and will play a big role in the coming season.

Shane’s next game and first league game of the season will be on October 6th against Triangle.
